Amidst the COVID-19 global pandemic, Guangzhou’s sister schools chose to stand side by side, offering all the necessary assistances and moral support to each other; and the true friendship and mutual assistance among these sister schools indeed lived up to the ideal of community with a shared future for mankind, as well as the internationally joint effort in combating epidemic and safeguarding the common home of mankind.
Firstly these sister schools exchanged affectionate greetings during the COVID-19 outbreak, for example, Balwyn High School from Australia sent an e-mail to Guangdong Guangya High School, bearing the message in Chinese “Please remember us from the State of Victoria, our hearts are always with you.” The headmaster of Reigate Grammar School of the UK sent a video clip to students and teachers of Guangzhou Zhixin High School, encouraging them to stay calm and be positive in the face of adversity. Zhixin High School also received many consolation letters and phone calls by sister schools from the UK, Germany, New Zealand and Sweden. A group of students from Max Beckmann High School of Frankfurt City, Germany originally planned to visit Guangzhou No.6 High School during this year’s Spring Festival holiday, postponed by the epidemic. 25 students from this school later sent a series of photos, expressing their best wishes and consolation to their peers in Guangzhou. Students majoring Spanish language from Guangzhou Foreign Language School voluntarily prepared a video clip, conveying the positive energy to students from the school’s sister school in Spain, a country that was severely affected by the epidemic. In addition, students from Guangzhou No.2 High School sent letters to their peers from sister schools in Canada, expressing their best wishes and encouragement.
Secondly these sister schools provide timely assistance to each other during hardship. Guangdong Guangya High School donated medical masks to its sister school College of Richard Collyer's; Guangzhou No. 6 High School also donated anti-epidemic medical supplies to Max Beckmann High School. Guangzhou Zhixin High School shared China’s best practices of epidemic control and prevention and the school’s online education curriculum design with its sister schools from different countries in the world.
“We are waves of the same sea, leaves of the same tree and flowers of the same garden”. In the near future, Guangzhou’s education sector will continue to give full play to its unique advantage, enhance international communication and share practical knowledge with its international sister schools. By doing so, Guangzhou can contribute its part in presenting the image of China as a responsible major power, facilitate closer international cooperation and communication, and create a joint force in winning this fight against a major infectious disease that affects all mankind.
